Rolls-Royce Experimental Electric - Flywheel Energy Storage

Ladies and Gentlemen,

What are the benefits of a flywheel energy storage?

a) High capacity: the heavy flywheel can rotate practically any fast - that means it really can store lots of energy...

b) Long life-time: while lithium-ion-batteries need to be replaced after approx. 4 years of usage the life-time of the flywheel energy storage can be the same long as that of the rest of the car - it is durable...

c) Being compact: a flywheel energy storage means that a heavy weight rotates around storing and providing energy when needed - the question is: what weight should rotate around... If the battery package of a hybrid car is round and rotates around in the flywheel energy storage then the flywheel energy storage doesn't mean any additional weight in the car - you have got 2 energy storages in 1 implementation...

The battery package of 600 kgs in the RR 102 EX is heavier than a fattened swine - I think it should be also turning around... Have a nice meal!

Best wishes, Joseph de la Mikula and Team
