Ladies and Gentlemen,
I used to have a girl-friend who said to me that certain ships are really floating continents already... On the other hand mankind has again and again the dream to live on floating islands as well...
Now let's recon a little... The ocean liner Queen Mary 2 is well over 350 meters long... 3 times 350 meters is over 1 kilometer long... Let's say the Transatlantic Crossing between England and New York means a distance of 10,000 kilometers... That means the Transatlantic Crossing is as long as 30,000 Queen Mary 2s... And 30,000 is not such a big number in some respects...
Queen Mary 2 can carry approx. 3,500 passengers and a crew of 1,000 members... That means 1,000 Queen Mary 2s could accommodate 4.5 million inhabitants - and even space for the ocean would be left... 1,000 such giant ocean liners could be a major city at sea, they wouldn't disturb the sea traffic, they could travel anywhere and they would be even secure... Maybe complete with some aircraft carriers...
Best wishes, Joseph de la Mikula and Team
