Ladies and Gentlemen,
You know additional wing surface is my hobby... Because by additional wing surface (such as delta-wings or double-wings of the dawn of aviation) you can reach the same results as by more powerful engines: higher altitudes, higher speeds, better fuel-efficiency and longer range...
Now you cannot only find additional wing surface on every airplane on the tail in terms of the horizontal rudders (the elevators) but you can also find plenty of it built in the main wings in terms of the flaps (or airlerons)... The flaps are used at take-off (to increase the uplift) and at landing (to increase the drag)...
I question myself what if you don't retract the flaps during the ascending of an aircraft... You surely cannot reach higher speeds (because of the drag) but you can probably reach higher altitudes (because of the uplift) - and once you have reached a high altitude you can reach a high speed as well... Maybe as if your airplane had delta-wings...
This is what the "FLAP-PACKAGE" of Boeing is all about... Recommended for 737-customers, too...
Best wishes, Joseph de la Mikula and Team
