The Dock+Go called solution of the Swiss firm Rinspeed provides with a range-extender for the micro-city-coupé Smart... The drag of the vario-hybrid cars can contain an internal combustion engine or a fuel cell for electric Smarts or electric batteries for Smarts with a combustion engine... Beyond this the drag means additional stovage space, too...
I think for larger limousines the drag with a range-extender could and should be as big as to accomodate a comfortable living room as well...
