On airplanes there are fire extinguisher systems in all engines and I guess elsewhere, too... In cars a fire extinguisher is an (affordable) option...
I don't know what to do when hydrogen burns or explodes in the cars of the future... However there could be an automatic fire extinguisher system in all cars, too - in order to reduce demage at crashes, other accidents or in case of technical failures...
With the growing number of automobiles this security feature could be more and more important, too...
