As we know abandoned buildings go to waste much earlier than buildings that we use... I guess the same is true for cars... The explanation must be that abandoned houses and cars are delivered to the forces of nature instead of regular human care... (According to this theory the worst place of a house is the garage that you don't really use except for parking your car...)
If you only have one car in a household then it should work to capacity well, last longer and cause less environmental polution by falling apart... This might be another argument for the one household - one car concept...
