I think being the longest airplane of the world has got a benefit for the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental... The Jumbo Jet of Boeing doesn't seem to follow the curvature of the Earth any more which might mean that the bow of the airplane always points into a higher orbit than the airliner flies in actually - and this might also contribute to a marvelous fuel-efficiency...
Just like the Boeing Logo sais: "All around the world and beyond..." (At this moment the first Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental has not been delivered to Lufthansa yet - it must be being prepared...)
